We offer a variety of programs for different ages.
Learn To Skate
Over the years, perhaps a thousand or more kids have learned to skate with the Swansea Hockey Association. More than a few parents have also seen their skating improve at the same time.
We run a loosely organized instructional program led by volunteers. The children learn, with their parents' assistance, to feel comfortable moving around on the ice. This program runs on Saturday mornings at 11:00 am, 12 noon or 1pm.
If you register in September, you can choose your preferred session time and we will try to accommodate.
The Learn to Skate program is for ages 3-6, and requires skates, kneepads, and a helmet with a face mask which must be CSA approved. Swansea Hockey provides a jersey. On-ice Parent volunteers are encouraged. All on-ice parent volunteers must wear an approved hockey helmet.
Our Learn to Skate program will begin on Saturday, November 26, with check-in (to receive jersey). The first time on the ice will be Saturday, December 3rd. Our final skate will be Saturday, February 25, 2023.
EMAIL WILL BE SENT OUT MIDDLE OF NOVEMBER TO ALL REGISTERED PLAYERS WITH THE PROGRAM DETAILS AND YOUR CHILD`S SESSION TIME.
The cost of the program for 2022/2023 is $120.00
Learn To Play Hockey
This program is a natural progression from our Learn To Skate program. Players aged 5 & 6 are introduced to hockey and skating drill under the guidance of parent volunteers. Basic skating skills are required for this program. 7-year-olds should be registered in our novice division hockey House League program allowing them to play hockey with their friends and peers.
Typically, the sessions end with an informal game or two.
This program will run on Saturdays at 2:00 pm

House League
For players age 7 to 17, we offer a house league hockey program with one or two games a week culminating with playoffs in late February before the ice melts. Our 2022/2023 season will start Saturday, December 3rd and all our finals will be on Saturday, February 25, 2023.
Please see the FAQ for typical games times based on previous years. But each year can be slightly different depending upon the number of teams in each division.
For our younger house league players in the Novice and Minor Atom divisions, we play 3-minute shifts where play stops during the shift changes but the clock keeps running. For all other divisions, shift changes can occur at any time.
Our Novice division will follow Hockey Canada's lead and introduce half-ice play. This format makes the ice size and net size more appropriate for younger players. This format allows all players to be more involved in the action. 2 volunteer parent coaches will be needed for each team.
For minor atom, atom and peewee divisions - we require 3 volunteer parent coaches per team. Please make sure that you check off coaching on your child's registration if you are interested in helping out.
Our House League program requires full hockey equipment including helmet, face mask, shin pads, hockey pants, elbow pads, shoulder pads, jock or jill strap, and BNQ or CSA approved neck guard. We will provide goalie equipment for all teams. Jersey and socks are provided by the league.
Please note that we cannot accept registrations from A, AA, AAA, or Junior players.
The cost of the house league program for 2022/2023 is $140.00
Just For Fun Tournament
WE REGRET THAT THE
JUST FOR FUN TOURNAMENT IS CANCELLED FOR DECEMBER, 2022
Every year, the Swansea Hockey Association holds a "Just For Fun" Tournament over the December holidays. It's a chance for 7 to 13-year-olds to play during the holidays. The Tournament will involve 6 games between 10 am and 6 pm over three days.
The tournament format is pretty simple: 2 divisions according to age and ability; 4 teams per division; no more than 2 goals per player in a game -- any more and the other team gets a penalty shot; all penalties are penalty shots with a chase; we provide the jerseys; the players provide the excitement!
Team listings and game schedules will be posted online on December 24th. ONCE THE TEAM LISTINGS ARE POSTED ONLINE, NO PLAYER MOVES WILL BE MADE UNTIL THE TOURNAMENT STARTS
These programs require full hockey equipment including helmet, face mask, shin pads, hockey pants, elbow pads, shoulder pads, jock or jill strap, and BNQ or CSA approved neck guard. Team jerseys and referee provided.
The 2022 Just For Fun Tournament is scheduled for Tuesday, December 27, Wednesday, December 28 and Thursday, December 29
The cost of the 2022 Just For Fun Tournament is $40 when done with house league registration and $50 as of December 5th for all others that are interested.
