50 Years of Swansea Hockey

The Swansea Hockey Association is the largest not-for-profit outdoor hockey league in North America. The coming 2023/2024 season will be our 50th season. In those 50 years, more than 25,000 boys and girls between the age of 3 and 17 participate in the greatest outdoor league in North America. None of it would be possible without the continuous support of the City of Toronto, Toronto Parks and Recreation, all of the past and present sponsors, and countless hours by the thousands of volunteers.

Braving the Canadian winter, players thrive in an atmosphere of encouragement and fair play. It's a low-key, fun, and safe environment for players and parents to learn to skate, learn hockey, enjoy the sport, and spend time with friends in the outdoors.

Our home rink, located in Swansea's Rennie Park, has been described as a "jewel" in the middle of a big city -- a tie that binds our tightly-knit community together. Overlooking the ice is the David H. Williams Clubhouse which is named after the first president, and one of the founders of the league. The facility is also home to the Swansea Girls Hockey League and the Swansea Figure Skating Association.

House League

For players ages 7 to 17, we offer a house league hockey program with one or two games a week culminating with playoffs in late February before the ice melts. Our 2023-2024 season will start on Saturday, December 2, 2023 and conclude with the Finals on Saturday, February 24, 2024. Our year-end awards banquet will be on Sunday, February 25, 2024.

Please see the FAQ for typical game times based on previous years. But each year can be slightly different depending on the number of teams in each division.

For our younger house league players in the Novice, Minor Atom and Atom divisions, we play 3-minute shifts where play stops during the shift changes but the clock keeps running. For our Peewee and Bantam divisions, shift changes can occur at any time.

Our Novice division will follow Hockey Canada's lead and introduce half-ice play. This format makes the ice size and net size more appropriate for younger players allowing all players to be more involved in the action. Two volunteer parent coaches are needed for each team.

For Minor Atom, Atom, Peewee, and Bantam divisions, we require 3 volunteer parent coaches per team.

Please make sure that you check off coaching on your child's registration if you are interested in helping out.

Our House League program requires full hockey equipment including a hockey helmet, face mask, shin pads, hockey pants, elbow pads, shoulder pads, jock or jill strap, and BNQ or CSA-approved neck guard. We will provide goalie equipment for all teams. Jersey and socks are provided by the league.

Please note that we cannot accept registrations from A, AA, AAA, or Junior players.

The cost of the house league program for 2023-2024 is $140.00
